 Frequently Asked Questions

1) Why should I use a freelance copywriter? There are four basic reasons: convenience, speed, cost and knowledge. As a freelance copywriter, I have a great deal more flexibility than someone that is tied to a desk in an office. They generally work a set time-period every day. I work when I have projects to complete, regardless of the time or day of week. For you, that means I can more easily adjust my schedule around your deadlines. It also means that I can work straight through until the project is completed, assuring you quicker turnaround times. Without a staff to support, I can charge half of what I use to charge when I worked at an agency, while still offering a high level of creativity and support. Having developed the marketing communications for over 40 different companies, I have a much broader perspective and level of experience than most in-house or agency copywriters.

2) Can you really write about products you aren't intimately familiar with? Of course not...that's why it's important to have resources to refer to and people to talk to that do know the product or service inside and out. Having worked on so many different products through the years, however, helps.  I am a very quick study. See the Experience page for specific products and markets served.

3) What is your writing style? All companies have a personality of one sort or another and I'm sure yours is no different. I feel it is important to reflect that corporate personality in all promotional endeavors. Unlike some writers who feel it important to stamp their work with a certain recognizable style, I don't. I adapt to the client. See the Samples page to see for yourself how this works in practice.

4) What do you need to know to get started on a project? There are some very basic things to get me started that fall in the "who, what, when, where, why" category. I provide a form that guides you through the initial information I need. See the Contact Me page for more information.

5) You say you're a marcomm consultant also. What does that mean? If you know you want an ad and all you need is for someone to get it written, I can do that. But many times what is needed, isn't obvious. Perhaps so many things need to be done and you need help determining what would be the most effective. Or you may be swamped with work and along comes another big, urgent project. I can step in and help out. I can also handle turnkey projects, where I handle everything on a brochure project, for example, from initial discussion through printing and distribution. I have worked as an outside ad manager for many companies through the years, so I know the kind of help you could use. I'm also a firm believer that promotional efforts are not meant to work in isolation. As a marketing communications consultant, I can work with you to get more done, in a shorter time span and at costs that are well within your budget.
